Liberia receives 5 million euros from the EU to develop the sector of cocoa
Monrovia, Liberia (PANA) – THE European Union (EU) and the Solidarity in West Africa provided Thursday, in Monrovia, five million euros to develop the sector of cocoa in Liberia, it was learned from official source in the local.
The agreement on this grant was signed by Emma Sundblad, charge d’affaires of the EU delegation in Liberia, and Isaac Gyamfi, director-general of Solidarity in West Africa (SWA), indicated a communiqué of the EU in Monrovia.
According to the Program of Improvement of the Sector of Cocoa in Liberia (Licisip), the SWA, funded by the EU and in close cooperation with the Ministry liberian Agriculture will work with farmers and companies in the agri-food industry sites to improve the quality of this product and increase the export of the same.
The SWA will also work with the Government in relation to sector policies and regulations in order to create a dynamic economy that is competitive and beneficial to the cocoa.
The project will last four years, according to a statement released Friday.
The Licsip, the first signed contract of agreement with the agricultural programme of the EU and Liberia, it is estimated in 30 million euros funded by the EU with the goal of stimulating the development of the agricultural economy and improve food and nutrition security in Liberia.
